You can’t save your face and your ass at the same time.
Something’s gotta give. We’ve heard the exhaustive conversation about curated social media feeds to convey an image of casual idyllic cool like the hipster who spent hours in front of the mirror just to look like they rolled out of bed.
Speaking of mirrors: It’s more than okay; hell, it’s welcome to have honest moments in your feed that mirror your reality. We have the ability to be optimistic while also accepting our reality for what’s happening. That’s the foundation, and then we make choices from THAT PLACE on what to do to help ourselves, which in turn helps each other.
Because, damn, yesterday was hard, and now it’s today. Better. And with each tear and drop of sweat, we learn.
We learn that we can remain optimistic even on the down days.
We learn who to lean into and reach out to.
We learn that we can’t paint a rosy picture of our lives and make any progress with our lives. Well, we CAN. We can do anything we want. But do you really WANT to? Because, once again, it’s a choice.
Most of all, we learn that being human invites us to experience all of the human emotions so that we can be reassured that our interconnectedness will save us all.
